08:15 | Lima, Sep. 4.

Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer stated that the body of Zetro Leonardo Purba, an official of the Indonesian Embassy in Peru who was murdered in Lima's Lince district last Monday, will be repatriated to his country of origin.

In a press conference following the Council of Ministers session on Wednesday, the Peruvian government official specified that the foreign citizen's wife and three minor children will return to Jakarta, the capital of the Asian country.

The minister emphasized that President Dina Boluarte briefly communicated in writing with her Indonesian counterpart, Prabowo Subianto.

Within this framework, the Head of State expressed the deepest condolences from the Peruvian Government and people for this tragic incident.

"The Madam President also assured the President of Indonesia that all necessary resources are being deployed to ensure this investigation is thorough, swift, and efficient, and to identify the intellectual and material perpetrators of this violent act," Schialer pointed out.

Comperif

When asked by the press about the upcoming session of the Permanent Joint Commission for the Inspection of the Peruvian–Colombian Border (COMPERIF), to be held in Lima on September 12 and 13, he provided details about the agenda.

The high-ranking official indicated that the topics to be addressed will include the land boundary markers in the border area and navigability on the Amazon.

The diplomat explained that navigability is a substantive issue, especially when it concerns a border river, such as this one, which stretches for about 145 kilometers between Colombia and Peru.

He added that it has been observed that the Colombian branch of the Amazon, in front of the city of Leticia, is decreasing in flow.

Thus, measures will be evaluated, as this is an issue of great importance for the populations residing in this triple border area with Colombia and Brazil.

Minister Schialer also specified that neither he nor his Colombian counterpart, Rosa Villavicencio, will participate at the session of this level, as it is a technical-level meeting involving officials from both ministries.
