Peru: FA Ministry laments murder of Indonesian Embassy official, announces measures

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday lamented the murder of Zetro Leonardo Purba, an official from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Peru, which occurred Monday night in Lima's Lince district.

In a statement, the Peruvian government agency expressed its deepest condolences and strong condemnation of this heinous act.

Likewise, it stated that this crime will be thoroughly investigated.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified that, as soon as the attack on the foreign official became known, it ordered that the necessary measures be taken to assist the Indonesian Ambassador in Peru with all required proceedings.

It also reported that, after informing the President of the Republic about the events, Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer conveyed the deepest condolences of the Head of State and the Peruvian people to Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono.

In that communication, Schialer told his counterpart that all possible measures will be taken to clarify what had occurred, while also offering to strengthen police protection for the Indonesian Embassy's staff and premises in Lima.

Additionally, the Minister contacted the Indonesian Ambassador based in Peru to offer all necessary support in this lamentable situation.

The statement added that the Director of State Ceremonial at the Foreign Affairs Ministry arrived immediately at the clinic where the victim had been taken.

There, the on-duty prosecutor and Peruvian National Police agents were present, "who are carrying out the corresponding investigations in order to clarify the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible."

Lastly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that it will continue providing all support and assistance required by the Indonesian authorities in this matter.

The government agency also stated that this crime will be thoroughly investigated and that all necessary protection and support will be provided to their Ambassador and staff in Peru.
