The Cabinet member stated that there is clear evidence of the intention to commit fraud in this electoral process which declared Nicolas Maduro as President for a new term, without showing all electoral records.
"From the initial vote count on Sunday, there is roughly a 30% difference in favor of Edmundo Gonzalez, which was irreversible. Gonzalez is the legitimate President-elect," he pointed out.
The high-ranking official said this is the position of Peru, other nations, and international organizations that have questioned the election results.
If Maduro remains in power, once his term ends, it could become a dictatorial government, he Gonzalez-Olaechea warned.
Security is reinforced
The Cabinet member added that the diplomatic officials who were asked to leave Venezuela will do so in the coming days.
Gonzalez-Olaechea also said that preventive measures have been taken to reinforce immigration posts at the borders and at Jorge Chavez International Airport, in view of the possibility of a new exodus of Venezuelans.
Lastly, he asserted that in the relationship with Venezuela, there are escalating levels as incidents occur that worsen the situation, such as military statements, the progress of protests, and the detention of opposition members.
