As part of the implementation of the bicameral Congress, which will take effect on July 27, the Senate Chamber has been renovated and is fully equipped for senators to begin their debate sessions.

Learn more about this chamber in the following article.

Congress' Acting Chairman Fernando Rospigliosi explained that the Raul Porras Barrenechea Chamber will serve as the seat of the Senate of the Republic.

Accordingly, its stained-glass skylight, columns, floors, and benches were meticulously restored to their original condition.

State-of-the-art technology has also been installed to support the debates, which will be of great importance to Peru.

Located in the Lima-based Legislative Palace, the Raul Porras Barrenechea Chamber is a historic hall where the Senate of the Republic once held its sessions.

It was inaugurated in 1938 and served as the Senate's seat from 1939 to 1992, hosting some of the most important debates in the country's parliamentary history.

Now named after the distinguished Peruvian diplomat Raul Porras Barrenechea, the chamber has been used to host meetings of various congressional committees.

The ceiling features an impressive stained-glass skylight depicting the Motherland surrounded by children holding a long ribbon in the national colors. It was created by Belgian artist Eider Detroayer between 1915 and 1918.

The massive stained-glass skylight measures 78 square meters and is considered a historic relic and one of the most valuable pieces preserved in the Legislative Palace.
