Trade between Peru and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies reached a record high of US$58 billion in 2018, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Edgar Vasquez informed.

"APEC is Peruvian exports' most important market (accounting for 62% of the total). In 2018, exports to APEC neared US$30 billion, a record figure," the official expressed.

In this sense, the Inca country exported minerals (63%), farming products (11%), oil and gas (9%), fishery products (8%), and textiles (3%).

Meanwhile, imports of meta-mechanic products (37%), chemicals (17%), oil (14%), among others, amounted to over US$27 billion.

Likewise, traditional and non-traditional exports broke records in 2018, US$23.435 billion and US$6.445 billion, respectively.

Mining (US$18.914 billion), farming (US$3.169 billion), and fishery (US$2.526 billion) sectors also posted record figures.

Peru is currently one of the world's largest fruit exporters. In 2018, fruit exports totaled over US$3 billion, of which 54% (US$1.65 billion) went to APEC economies.

China is the main destination for Peruvian exports, accounting for 44% of the total.

In 2018, Peru imports from APEC expanded for the second year in a row (11%) driven by greater purchases of diesel (28%), plastics and articles thereof (21%), and hard yellow corn (6%).
