China was the major destination for Peruvian exports in the first quarter of 2016 (January, February and March), accounting for 22% of total exports to international markets, the National Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) reported.
Peruvian shipments to China amounted to US$1.65 billion, posting a 9.7% increase.
The second biggest destination was the United States, which accounted for 14.7% of the total, or US$1.08 billion, a 7.6% decrease compared to the same quarter last year.
On the other hand, the countries that make up the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum bought 59.7% of Peruvian exports, totaling US$4.4 billion.
Together non-grouped countries accounted for 15.8% of exports, amounting to US$1.16 billion.
Other major destinations included the European Union (accounting for 14.4%, or US$1.05 billion), the Andean Community (6.0% or US$445 million) and Mercosur (4.1% or US$159 million).
