Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) has launched an awareness-raising campaign, which will last at least ten days, to encourage the use of face shields —in addition to the masks— among public transport passengers. After that time, their use will be mandatory.
According to the government official, although the rule governing this mandate was published on Saturday, the use of face shields will be under a trial period during the first 10 days of its implementation. No sanction will be imposed during this stage.
Lozada explained that the number of people using public transport in Peru has increased during
Phase 3 of the economic reopening. Therefore, all bus seats are available now.
However, people shall use face shields as a protection measure given that passengers will be in close contact with others during the trip.
"The measure is under a trial period that will take us a week or 10 days. During this time, an aggressive campaign will be carried out to introduce the new protocols, which shall be implemented gradually," the Cabinet member pointed out.
"Afterwards, the use of face shields will become compulsory, and a date will be set to start imposing sanctions," he added.
