Peru will prioritize regional security, disaster risk management, and border integration during its Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Andean Community (CAN) for the 2026–2027 term, Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Espa stated.

The government official highlighted that the current political situation presents an opportunity to consolidate regional integration and generate tangible benefits for the most vulnerable populations.

He explained that, as holder of the Pro-Tempore Presidency, Peru will focus its efforts on three strategic pillars: regional security and the fight against transnational threats; disaster risk management and environmental sustainability; and Andean citizenship and border integration.

Peru will also seek to work in key areas such as strengthening the CAN's international relations, digital transformation, innovation, and culture.

The Cabinet member said Peru's Presidency will prioritize high-level political dialogue and seek to convene the Andean Presidential Council.

The ceremony was held in Quito, Ecuador. It was attended by Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister and his Foreign Trade and Tourism peer, Rogers Valencia.

As part of the 57th Expanded Meeting of the Andean Council of Foreign Affairs Ministers with representatives of the Commission (Expanded CAMRE), Peru advanced preparations for President Keiko Fujimori to assume the CAN Pro-Tempore Presidency from her Ecuadorian counterpart, Daniel Noboa.

At the meeting, Ministers Espa and Valencia presented Peru's 2026–2027 Presidency Work Plan, under which Peru will lead the Andean integration process by promoting a constructive agenda focused on citizens' well-being.

The Andean Community (CAN) is made up of Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, and Ecuador.
