President of the Republic Keiko Fujimori, highlighted the completion of excavations for all stations on Line 2 and the Line 4 branch of the Lima and Callao Metro, part of the construction of the country’s first underground metro system,. which will improve the quality of life of Lima and Callao inhabitants.

The Head of State emphasized the social impact of the project, noting that it will significantly reduce the travel time citizens currently lose daily on public transport, allowing them to spend more time with their families.

"Many citizens spend hours in minibuses or buses just to get to work—three or four hours round-trip—time that should instead be spent with family. That is what projects like this aim to achieve," stated the President, who oversaw the arrival of the tunnel-boring machine "Micaela" in the district of Carmen de la Legua.

She emphasized that, for the government, it is essential that investment projects contribute to improving the quality of life for citizens.

In this regard, she welcomed the Congress of the Republic’s approval of a supplementary credit of over 8 billion soles (2.3 billion dollars), which includes a large portion of the budget for Line 2.

Furthermore, she addressed an additional injection of 18 billion soles (5.2 billion dollars) to be implemented by 2027, aimed at protecting the most vulnerable families, creating jobs, strengthening public infrastructure, and sustaining economic growth in the face of the climate-related and external shocks the country faces.

"Today, together with the Minister of Economy and the Prime Minister, we announced a series of countercyclical measures to ensure our country's economic growth. These measures include an allocation of 18 billion soles (5.2 billion dollars) for investment budgets to continue our work—building homes, water and sanitation projects, schools, and medical clinics—and, of course, to ensure the implementation and construction of the stations for Line 2 and Branch 4," she explained.

Furthermore, President Keiko Fujimori expressed her confidence that we will be able to rise to the challenges posed by the arrival of the El Niño phenomenon and its impact on rising fuel prices.

The President concluded her remarks by acknowledging and commending the work of the engineers and technicians—from Peru and other countries—who participated in the construction of the first phase of the underground metro system.
