Peru: Tayta Operation targeting vulnerable people to continue Friday

15:09 | Lima, Jun. 3.

Tayta Operation (Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19) —aimed at the most vulnerable population such as adults aged over 60 and people with comorbidity problems— will continue Friday in three districts of Lima, Defense Minister Walter Martos said on Wednesday.

The minister recalled that the operation was launched Monday in Manzanilla neighborhood of downtown Lima —located in front of Dos de Mayo Hospital— with the support of the Municipality of Lima, which registered 1,000 families to locate the elderly population and people suffering from various other diseases.

"We went house-to-house to meet the vulnerable people on the registry, who underwent rapid tests and received the corresponding treatment," he told TV Peru.

The government official affirmed that "Te Cuido Peru" (I take care of you, Peru) program delivered supplies to the people who tested positive, that is, 160 out of 304 people (52.7%).

"We met with three of Lima's district mayors today, and we will be embarking on a much more massive operation on Friday. Afterwards, with the experience we get, we are going to try to replicate these actions all over the country," he added.

Strategy

Martos affirmed that —in this new phase of the fight against the pandemic— "our aim is a mitigation strategy, that is, that the Ministry of Health (Minsa) implements the early treatment intensely and at national level."

To that end, primary health care posts are being reopened and rapid response teams are conducting house-to-house visits.
