More than 100 global leaders participating in the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) —which takes place in the city of Glasgow— on Tuesday signed the Glasgow Declaration on Forests and Land Use to stop deforestation, as well as promote the conservation, protection, sustainable management, in addition to restoration of forests and other terrestrial ecosystems.

In this regard, 12 countries have pledged to provide US$12 billion in public financing and US$7.2 billion in private investment to restore degraded lands.

Peru is part of this international commitment, in accordance with the guidelines of the Government's general policy, which is implemented by the Environment Ministry, and in line with our ancestral tradition of sustainable ties with nature.

In a video, the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, stated that "Peru supports the Glasgow Declaration on Forests, as it expresses our commitment to the conservation and sustainable use of our Amazonia, within the framework of climate change and the fight against deforestation."
