Exports from Peruvian regions totaled US$2.632 billion last May, up by 18.1% over the same month in 2017, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Rogers Valencia informed.
Thus,
regional shipments accumulated an expansion of 21.3% between January and May 2018 compared to the similar period the previous year.
According to the cabinet member, 15 Peruvian regions (excluding Lima and Callao) experienced positive growth in the first five months of the current year, being Loreto (+130%) and
Cusco (+93%) the most dynamic ones.
"In this same period, 10 regions exceeded US$500 million in exports. They were
Arequipa, Ancash, Ica, Piura, Apurimac, La Libertad, Cusco, Moquegua,
Puno, and Cajamarca," he added.
Likewise, the official pointed out the exportable offer from said regions captivated more than 100 markets around the world.
In this sense,
China and the United States stood as the major destinations by receiving 45% of total shipments.
North
Exports from northern regions reached US$4.8 billion between January and May 2018, a 23% rise over the same period last year.
This outcome was underpinned by the good performance of mining (+23%),
fishery (+16%), and hydrocarbon (+20%) sectors.
Center
In addition, shipments from central regions increased by 17%, essentially driven by higher sales of farming (+32%) and mineral products (+11%).
South
Lastly, exports from southern regions amounted to US$5.699 billion, a 22% growth over the similar term last year due to greater shipments of gold, copper, and cathodes. They came mainly from Arequipa, Apurimac, Cusco, and Puno.
