Exports from regions —without taking into account Lima and Callao areas— surpassed US$22.726 billion in the first 10 months of the current year, the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) reported Tuesday.
This result led to an 18% increase from the same period in 2016.
During the analyzed period, the most outstanding regions were Arequipa, Ancash, Ica, Apurimac, La Libertad, Piura, Puno, Moquegua, Cusco, Junin, Ayacucho, Tumbes, Madre de Dios, San Martin, and Amazonas.
Nevertheless, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, Pasco, Tacna, Huancavelica, Huanuco, Loreto, and Ucayali saw decreases in their exports.
Arequipa
Arequipa region remains the top exporting area, as its shipments totaled US$4.081 billion between Jan-Oct 2017.
In this sense, the main export product was
copper, which accounted for 61.2% of Arequipa's exportable supply, followed by gold, molybdenum, silver, combed wool fiber, zinc, fish meal, prepared artichokes, and
cement.
Arequipa's products arrived in 84 markets, including China, the United States, and Japan.
Ancash
Likewise, Ancash region's total exports reached US$2.963 billion, up by 31.7% over the same period last year.
China, Spain, Germany, Chile and South Korea stood out as main target markets.
Others
Regions such as Ica (US$2.629 billion), Apurimac (US$2.294 billion), La Libertad (US$2.288 billion), and Piura (US$1.618 billion), among others, also saw increases in this sense.
