The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday said that the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, has sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann, to reaffirm Peru’s aspiration to become a member of said multilateral organization.

"President Pedro Castillo has sent a letter to OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann to reaffirm Peru’s firm aspiration to join this organization as a member, in order to raise the standards in the implementation of public policies," the ministry said on its official Twitter account.

"The linkage between Peru and the OECD can continue to promote the improvement of living conditions of all citizens and mitigate the negative effects of the pandemic," it added.

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international organization that works to build better policies for better lives.

A few days ago, Minister Maurtua participated at the Meeting of the OECD Council at Ministerial Level, where he highlighted the efforts made by Peru to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

He underlined the country's commitment to the design and implementation of public policies to create the highest standards in education and gender equality, health, employment and integrity, improving conditions and the quality of life of all citizens, mainly of the most vulnerable.
