Peru provides greatest economic support to vulnerable families in region

14:33 | Lima, Apr. 23.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Thursday afternoon affirmed that Peru offers the greatest economic support in the region to the vulnerable population at times of coronavirus (COVID-19) by granting a monthly subsidy of US$223 to each of those families.

The Head of State indicated that —based on the analysis of the minimum basic food basket required by any household— the subsidy stands at S/760, which is currently equivalent to US$223.

Thus, the bonus for vulnerable families provided in Peru is higher than those granted by other countries such as Argentina (US$151), Brazil (US$113), Chile (US$58), and Colombia (US$41).

"Compared to the rest of countries in the region, Peru is making the greatest effort to serve the population that requires help from its Government at this difficult time," the top official stressed.

Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the social isolation measure had been first extended to April 12, then thru April 26, and recently until May 10.

Thursday marks the thirty-ninth day of mandatory social isolation.
