Peru: Production Min brings tests, equipment and health professionals to Loreto

14:16 | Iquitos (Loreto region), May. 20.

Peru's Production Minister Rocio Barrios brought 1.5 tons of medical material and 9,000 rapid diagnostic tests to increase the emergency response in Loreto, one of the hardest-hit regions during the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

On board the presidential plane —which has been allocated to transport aid to the rainforest region— were nine nurses and three doctors, who will join the health care workforce to help combat covid-19 in this Amazon region.

Minister Barrios, who is in charge of the Government's response to the pandemic in Loreto, will meet with local authorities and the Covid-19 Operations Command regional team to continue articulating the necessary efforts to fight the disease.

On May 15, the production sector's head brought two oxygen plants to Loreto, one of them was acquired by the Regional Government and the other was donated by a private company.

These plants will increase the oxygen supply to support the treatment of covid-19 patients.

At that time, the minister delivered a shipment of over 1.5 tons of personal protective equipment to enhance the safety of health care workers, as well as medicines and 11,000 rapid diagnostic tests.
