The Presidency of the Republic on Wednesday expressed its concern for the health of Alberto Fujimori, who —according to his primary care physician Alejandro Aguinaga— is fighting for his life.

This message was issued on the X platform (formerly Twitter).

"From the Presidency of the Republic, we express our concern for the health of former President Alberto Fujimori, and wish for his speedy recovery. We extend our solidarity and strength to his family," reads the post.

This afternoon, it was reported that Alberto Fujimori —former President of the Republic from 1990 to 2000— is in delicate state of health.

Relatives and family doctor Alejandro Aguinaga, as well as Fuerza Popular (Popular Force party) Congresswoman Martha Moyano and former legislators Luz Salgado and Luisa Maria Cuculiza, arrived at Keiko Fujimori's house in Lima's San Borja district.

As is known, the Fujimori patriarch moved to his daughter's home following his release from prison.

The former president was sentenced in 2009 by the Special Criminal Court to 25 years in prison for being considered the indirect perpetrator of the deaths of attendees at a gathering in Lima's Barrios Altos neighborhood (1991) and students from La Cantuta University (1992) —crimes perpetrated by intelligence service agents from the Colina detachment.

The Supreme Court upheld the 25-year sentence in 2010.

Alberto Fujimori had been held at Barbadillo Prison located within the Peruvian National Police (PNP) Special Operations Directorate (Dinoes) facilities in Lima's Ate district since his extradition from Chile in September 2007.
