Peru and Japan held the second meeting of the Working Group to monitor the Roadmap for Strengthening the Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Peru and Japan (2024–2033).
This mechanism allows the two countries to review progress in implementing the 61 commitments they have established and define work priorities to continue deepening bilateral relations.
During the meeting, progress made under the five pillars of the Roadmap was reviewed.
Among them, the parties highlighted the reinstatement of the short-term visa exemption for Peruvian citizens holding ordinary passports, which has been fostering exchanges between the two countries.
In addition, they highlighted the establishment of the Subcommittee on Science and Technology Cooperation under the Peru–Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.
Progress was also made in trade and investment, tourism, cooperation on disaster risk management, and security and defense.
The parties agreed to prioritize nine commitments for the remaining annual implementation period of the 2026 Roadmap.
These include strengthening cooperation on disaster risk prevention and management, particularly in response to the effects of El Niño phenomenon and through the use of information and communications technologies.
Moreover, they agreed to coordinate efforts to promote a new Japanese business mission to Peru aimed at identifying investment opportunities in infrastructure and public services.
