In a statement from the Government Palace, the Head of State specified that the subsidy will range between 15% and 20%.
It will cover freight and passenger transport operators, river transport providers, and mototaxi drivers in the jungle region.
The top official said this measure will be temporary and remain in effect for three months.
She indicated that an extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting will be held to approve this measure.
"The Government has decided to act, and we will do so responsibly and in an orderly manner. (...) I want you to know that a targeted subsidy will be applied to those who need it most, namely freight and passenger transport operators," Fujimori stated.
"This subsidy will range between 15% and 20%; for the first time in history, it will include river transport operators and mototaxi drivers," she added.
The President said the increase in fuel costs has prompted numerous complaints in various regions.
Likewise, the Head of State noted that public and freight transport, as well as mototaxi drivers, have been affected in their operations and household finances.
In this regard, the top official emphasized that her Government “does not and will not have a practice of denying or turning a blind eye to problems.”
"We understand that the complaints are entirely justified," she emphasized.
She also noted that, although the fuel price hike is due to the conflict in the Middle East, “as a Government, we are obliged to respond when external factors affect the economy and our fellow citizens' quality of life,” she pointed out.
Since day one
In turn, Prime Minister Luis Galarreta said the Government has been addressing the population’s demands since the demonstrations began.
"Since the stoppages began, President Fujimori instructed us to get to work, and we have been meeting with the ministers of Economy-Finance and Energy-Mines for days to find a solution," he noted.
The Cabinet member recalled that fuel prices have been rising since March and that this Government, after just 14 days in office, is already taking action.
Finally, he assured citizens that the specific case of the fuel shortage in Ucayali region will be addressed.
