Peru President: We will not levy taxes on people with limited resources

18:26 | Pampas (Huancavelica region), May. 22.

The Peruvian Government will not levy taxes on those segments of the population lacking resources, President Martin Vizcarra affirmed on Tuesday.

According to the Head of State, his administration aims at improving Peruvian economy without affecting the poorest people in the Inca country.

"We will in no way levy taxes on the people with the fewest resources in order to improve the economy," the statesman expressed.

This way, the Head of State confirmed the recent statements made by Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva, who ruled out an increase in the income tax rate.

Peru's top official also underlined the Government seeks to save economic resources by cutting unnecessary expenses in areas that do not benefit the population.

"That is my commitment to Peruvians: to generate benefits and to carry out works that lead to progress (…)," Mr. Vizcarra pointed out.

"(…) you can rest assured that we will work to improve little by little the living conditions of all Peruvians, and not only in urban areas (…)," he added.

Remarks were made during his visit to Andean Huancavelica region, where President Vizcarra supervised a highway and an emblematic school.
