The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday called on citizens to seek unity and urged them to condemn speeches which incite hatred or conflict, noting that those do not contribute to the nation's development.

The Head of State reminded Peruvians that electoral bodies had received support from international observers who stressed that the process was clean.

"Let's await the final results," he added.

Following the electoral process —Mr. Sagasti emphasized— everyone has the obligation and need to join efforts to move the country forward in the face of this difficult context marked by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The Bicentennial grants us a new opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the homeland. On the part of the Government, we accomplish what we promised," he assured reporters.

COVID-19

The statesman also affirmed that "we are far from a third wave." However, he reminded Peruvians that COVID-19 is a virus which will continue to coexist with them until it resembles the flu or influenza.

Lastly, the leader stressed that people must continue complying with prevention measures and adapting their activities to the new normality.

Remarks were made during his trip to the northern city of Chiclayo.
