Peru President to lead Muni-Executive meeting in Madre de Dios region

10:49 | Puerto Maldonado (Madre de Dios region), Sep. 2.

Peru's President Martin Vizcarra and Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva on Sunday will preside over a new Muni-Executive Power meeting in Puerto Maldonado city in order to align priorities for provinces and districts within Madre de Dios region, as well as to guarantee an adequate execution of allocated resources.

According to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), the working meeting will include the participation of State ministers and mayors of three provinces.

Set to take place at Tambopata Municipality headquarters, the gathering is intended to monitor the effective execution of resources transferred from central to local governments (S/27 million or US$8.1 million) and to the region of Madre de Dios (S/97 million or US$29.4).

Additionally, the Executive Power has committed a budget of S/264 million (about US$80 million) to fund projects in the abovementioned rainforest region.

In total, S/388 million (about US$117.6 million) shall be invested in strategic sectors such as transportation, health, and housing.

The Muni-Executive Power meeting will serve to define administrative measures to speed up projects planned for this year —at all three levels of government— in each province.

Instead of setting up a new investment portfolio, the event will help verify the proper implementation of already allocated funds.

Likewise, it is meant to ensure that change in administrations —following municipal and regional elections set for October 7— do not result in a stoppage of public services and ongoing works.

This type of gathering denotes cooperation platforms that promote, develop, and strengthen the joint efforts among governors, mayors, and the Executive Branch.
