Peru President: The Universal Family Bonus beneficiary registry to be completed this week

16:03 | Lima, Apr. 29.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday afternoon announced that the list of beneficiaries —who will receive the Universal Family Bonus aimed at helping the vulnerable population to face the coronavirus pandemic impact— will be completed this week.

Likewise, the Head of State said that while Peruvians hope for the pandemic to be overcome, the vulnerable population must be assisted by the government action.

In this sense, the top official indicated that the second tranche of the bonus —whose first part had already been delivered to citizens in need— will start to be paid this week.

"(…) we have to reach out up to the last family of the 6.8 million households, which must receive this bonus currently in process, while doctors and (medical) staff fight the disease and make the efforts to contain it," he expressed.

In a previous conference, the President had said that there are around 32 million citizens in the country who make up more than 9 million households, according to the last census.

The statesman indicated that 25% of households (2.2 million families) —who work in the sector that continues operating during the current health emergency aimed at combating the coronavirus— can rely on a fixed salary.

Remarks were made in a televised press conference, within the framework of
a mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.

On this occasion, the President was joined by some members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Wednesday marks the forty-fifth day of mandatory social isolation.
