On behalf of the Peruvian State, the recently-sworn-in President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti apologized to the young people and victims of the marches held in defense of democracy last week.

"On behalf of the (Peruvian) State, I apologize to their family members, to them, and to all the young people who marched to defend democracy and reminded many of us of the importance of the vocation for service," he expressed.

Within this framework, the top official thanked the presence of both citizens' relatives, as well as of Veronica Morales, mother of Jon Cordero —one of the young people injured in the protests and who is currently hospitalized.

"We cannot bring them back to life, but we can prevent that from happening again and resolutely support the injured citizens," he said.
