11:00 | Lima, Dec. 6.

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday participated in the ceremony marking the 34th anniversary of creation of the National Police of Peru (PNP).

The event took place at the PNP School of Officers in Lima's Chorrillos district.

Every December 6, the institutional creation of the National Police of Peru is commemorated. Its creation was regulated by Law No. 24949, thus merging the Guardia Civil (Civil Guard), the Police of Investigations, and the Guardia Republicana (Republic Guard) into a single police force.

Among its duties, the PNP must prevent, investigate, and combat crime; monitor and control the country's borders; guarantee law enforcement, as well as the security of public and private assets.

The National Police of Peru is an agency dependent on the Ministry of Interior (Mininter) led by Willy Huerta. Raul Alfaro is current General Commander of the PNP.
