to strengthen cooperation aimed at the construction and modernization of prison infrastructure, as part of efforts to address citizen insecurity and prison overcrowding.
Joined by his technical team, the Cabinet member underscored the Peruvian Government's commitment to providing concrete responses.
"For our Government, this cooperation with the United States is vital, with security being a fundamental component," Alvarez stated.
"Peru has a real and urgent need. What we do today in terms of citizen security will be valued by all Peruvians, indelibly strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between both nations," he added.
Likewise, the minister announced progress in arranging for a plot of land for the construction of penitentiary centers for inmates who are not being prosecuted for highly dangerous crimes.
He explained that these facilities will intensively implement the productive prisons model, aimed at enabling inmates to work, helping to reduce recidivism and strengthen citizen security.
During the meeting, U.S. Embassy Commercial Counselor Jay Biggs stressed that the diplomatic mission has made it a priority to support Peru's initiatives aimed at strengthening citizen security.
Along these lines, the senior commercial adviser at the aforementioned diplomatic mission, Jorge Prado, said that they provide advice to U.S. companies.
He also acknowledged the Peruvian State's objective of building new prisons.
