Peru: President orders humanitarian flight for relatives of deceased firefighter

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Saturday ordered a humanitarian flight to transport the family members of firefighter Angel Torres, who passed away while on duty at Jorge Chavez International Airport last Friday.

"I have ordered the Defense Ministry to arrange an humanitarian flight, the transfer from San Martin region of the relatives of courageous firefighter Angel Torres, who died while on duty at Jorge Chavez International Airport. To them, (I extend) my condolences for their irreparable loss," Mr. Castillo expressed on his Twitter  account.

Yesterday, an airplane bound for the city of Juliaca, Puno region, collided with a vehicle from the rescue and firefighting team of the airport concessionaire, Lima Airport Partners (LAP), during the takeoff run.


Meanwhile, Manuel Hugo Villanueva, another of the firefighters who was inside the wrecked truck, is hospitalized.
