Peru: President expresses condolences to relatives of firefighters dead at airport

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday evening expressed condolences to the relatives of firefighters Angel Torres and Nicolas Santa Gadea, who passed away this afternoon in an accident at Jorge Chavez Airport —also known as Lima International Airport.


The Head of State said his thoughts and prayers are with them.

The top official also hoped for the speedy recovery of those who are wounded.

"I express my heartfelt condolences to the relatives of Angel Torres and Nicolas Santa Gadea, brave firefighters who passed away in the accident that occurred at Jorge Chavez Airport. My thoughts and prayers are with them. I hope for the recovery of the injured," Mr. Castillo expressed via his Twitter account.

Prime Minister Anibal Torres and Cabinet members also lamented the passing of aeronautical firefighters.


During the afternoon a Latam airplane that was covering the domestic Lima-Juliaca route suffered a fire while on the runway. Passengers and crew were evacuated alive.
