The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo arrived in the town of Retamas, Pataz province, on Wednesday to supervise the situation in the area following a landslide that occurred a day earlier.

Once in the zone, the Head of State collected the first reports from Defense Minister Jose Gavidia and local authorities.

Previously, the President flew over the affected area along with Housing Minister Geiner Alvarado.

"The goal is to rescue people," Mr. Castillo expressed.

After leaving Parliament headquarters, Mr. Castillo announced that he would travel to the area in order to verify the situation in situ.

"The Government of the people will be present at the time when citizens most require it," he emphasized.

The first reports speak of missing persons, including three minors, in addition to dozens of homes that would have ended up buried by the landslide.
