Peru's President: We will support families affected by landslide in Pataz

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday reported that the Government will support the families affected by the landslide that struck the province of Pataz in La Libertad region.

In a post on Twitter, the Head of State affirmed that response actions will be coordinated with local authorities.

"I have decreed that the head of Indeci and the Minister of Defense (Jose Gavidia) shall go to the landslide-affected area in the province of Pataz," he remarked.

For his part, Minister Gavidia stated that he headed to the emergency zone together with a rapid response team from the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci).

"We will provide all the necessary help to the affected families," he said, noting that the disaster took place in the town of Retamas.

According to local reports, dozens of houses have been buried in the landslide.
