The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, led the launch of the "Econavidad: Mas amor, menos ruido" (EcoChristimas: More Love, Less Noise) campaign at the Government Palace in Lima.

The initiative aims to raise awareness about the use of fireworks during the year-end festivities and the need to protect pets, given the stress and anxiety they cause them, Environment Minister Miguel Espichan stated.

Likewise, the campaign highlights the use of recycled materials in the production of items such as Christmas decorations.

The Government, through the Ministry of Environment (Minam), aims to promote the celebration of Christmas by encouraging responsible habits—without noisy fireworks, with less plastic use and more conscious consumption.

"It is a message we must convey to everyone to prevent our pets from suffering. That is why we invite citizens to be mindful of those who give us their unconditional love," President Jeri expressed.

"Besides, in our effort to reduce the environmental impact, let us avoid the use of single-use plastics during these festivities," he emphasized during the event.

Animals—especially dogs and birds—experience stress, distress, and panic during the use of fireworks due to the high sensitivity of their hearing.

In addition, people with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, as well as those on the autism spectrum, are also severely affected by the noise.

In this regard, it should be noted that high exposure to fireworks noise can trigger tachycardia, tremors, and other health problems, particularly among the most vulnerable populations.

Therefore, the Econavidad campaign promotes responsible consumption through sustainable and eco-friendly gifts, without the need for packaging that generates unnecessary waste, which often ends up in public spaces, rivers, or even the sea.

On the other hand, families can choose to give Christmas-themed items made from discarded materials or waste which, with creativity, can be given a second life.

Thus, the Executive Branch reaffirms its commitment to responsible environmental management, the care of the planet, the fight against climate change, and the protection of Peru's biodiversity.
