Peru President leads Justice Reform Council meeting

10:10 | Lima, Aug. 27.

President Martin Vizcarra led the 4th regular meeting of the National Council for Justice Reform.

On the occasion, he was joined by Congress Chairman Pedro Olaechea, Judiciary Head Jose Luis Lecaros, Attorney General Zoraida Avalos, Comptroller General Nelson Shack, as well as Ombudsman Walter Gutierrez.

The meeting took place at the Government Palace on Monday evening.

The committee's tasks are: promoting the justice system reform; tracking and assessing the progress made on this process; and presenting an annual report on its progress to the public.

The creation of this mechanism was proposed by the Executive Branch as part of the justice reform promoted after the release of some audios that had revealed corruption among members of the Judicial Power, Public Ministry, and the deactivated National Council of Magistracy (CNM), which led to a scandal.
