Legislator Pedro Olaechea (Accion Republicana) has been elected new Congress Chairman for the 2019-2020 term.

He will be joined by fellow legislators: First Vice-Chairwoman Karina Beteta (Fuerza Popular), Second Vice-Chairman Salvador Heresi (Contigo), and Third Vice-Chairman Marvin Palma (Cambio 21).

The group was elected by 76 legislators, whereas other 47 lawmakers voted for the challenging —and also multiparty— list led by Daniel Salaverry, who had held the chairmanship during the 2018-2019 term.

The voting session took place on Saturday morning at Parliament headquarters.
