Peru: President leads government-to-government reconstruction agreement signing with UK

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Monday led the government-to-government agreement ceremony between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Peru over the Reconstruction with Changes Program.

On June 15, the Head of State announced that the Government of the United Kingdom would be in charge of executing the Comprehensive Plan for Reconstruction with Changes in the regions affected by the 2017 Coastal El Niño Phenomenon.

As is known, said weather event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods, which destroyed infrastructure and crops, leaving many citizens homeless.

The event took place at the Lima-based Government Palace within the framework of

a mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.

Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the quarantine was extended until June 30.

Monday marks the ninety-ninth day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
