President Martin Vizcarra on Saturday afternoon confirmed that
It must be noted that 65,712 samples have been taken so far, including molecular and rapid tests.
Thus, 58,864 citizens have tested negative.
Within this framework, the Head of State explained that —compared to the data presented the day before— there is a significant increase as the number of taken samples has risen.
Likewise, the top official informed that 788 patients are hospitalized, of whom 142 are connected to mechanical ventilation at Intensive Care Units.
The Head of State highlighted the increase in the number of tests to diagnose COVID-19, which —from 1,000 daily tests— gradually increased to 9,000 per day during the current week.
Furthermore, the statesman indicated that the objective is to exceed that figure and reach 12,000 tests per day, with which —he stressed— Peru's testing will be above any nation in the region.
Measures
Hospital
Regarding the San Isidro Labrador Hospital, the President reported that the necessary steps were taken. Thus, the medical center is now able to attend to 300 patients suffering from COVID-19.
The statesman indicated that said medical center complements the
Ate Hospital, also intended for patients with coronavirus.
In order to face the pandemic, Mr. Vizcarra emphasized that there should be no difference between any hospital belonging to the Ministry of Health, EsSalud, the Armed Forces, or National Police.
ICU beds
Lastly, the President announced that the Government has set a goal of having 1,000 beds in Intensive Care Units nationwide this month for patients infected with coronavirus. There are currently 504.
On this occasion, the President was joined by Health Minister Victor Zamora and Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) Executive-President Fiorella Molinelli. The event was held at San Isidro Labrador Hospital in Lima's Ate district.
Saturday marks the twenty-seventh day of mandatory social isolation.
