The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday night met with the Council of State to evaluate and determine measures that will be taken in the face of the current situation characterized by mobilizations and protests in various Peruvian regions.

In a statement released by the Presidency of the Republic, the participants supported the Constitutional Government so as to immediately restore public order within the parameters required by a constitutional and democratic rule of law, with unrestricted respect for the fundamental rights of people.

The Council of State is the body that brings together the highest authorities of the three powers of the State; that means the President of the Republic, as well as the heads of Congress and the Judiciary.

Usually, said meetings are also attended by the Attorney General and the Constitutional Court Chair, among other authorities.

The purpose of said gatherings is to discuss issues of high urgency for the nation.

This consultative body does not appear in the Constitution nor is it institutionalized in any regulation. Thus, its meetings are convened on the initiative of the President of the Republic whenever discussing an issue that requires the participation of the country's highest authorities is deemed as necessary.

The latest edition saw the presence of Congress Chairman Jose Williams; Judiciary Chairwoman Elvia Barrios; Attorney General Patricia Benavides; National Justice Board Head Henry Avila; and Constitutional Court Chairman Francisco Morales.

Also attending were National Elections Board Chairman Jorge Luis Salas Arenas; Ombudswoman Eliana Revollar; Comptroller General Nelson Shack;
Cabinet Chief Pedro Angulo; as well as Ministers Luis Otarola (Defense), Jose Tello (Justice-Human Rights), and Cesar Cevantes (Interior).
