The
President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, arrived in northern Piura region on Monday morning, where she will oversee river cleaning and desilting works on the Chira and Piura rivers as part of El Niño prevention efforts.
The Head of State was accompanied by Ministers Rafael Belaunde (Defense) and Marco Vinelli (Agrarian Development and Irrigation).
As part of her activities, the top official is scheduled to assess the condition of Chira and Piura rivers and visit the Potreritos, Limonal, and Los Ejidos areas, where riverbed cleaning and desilting works are underway.
These interventions aim to restore the riverbeds' natural depth by removing rocks, silt, and debris to improve water flow and prevent overflows and flooding.
In her inaugural address after taking office, the President said one of her administration's priorities would be preventing the impacts of El Niño forecast for this year.
Upon arrival, she was received with the honors befitting her office and was greeted by the region's highest authorities.
Surprise visit
The President arrived at the Veintiséis de Octubre Police Station, where she made an unannounced visit to observe firsthand the work carried out by personnel at this precinct, located in the district of the same name.
There, the Head of State reaffirmed the Government's commitment to strengthening citizen security and tackling crime decisively so that families can live with greater peace of mind.
Before departing for Piura, President Fujimori welcomed at Callao Air Base a group of 10 Peruvians repatriated from Venezuela after they requested to return home following the earthquake that struck that country last June.
