The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday announced that the Government allocated S/19 million (about US$4.6 million) to attend to victims of the earthquake which hit northern Piura region on July 30.

Joined by local authorities, the Head of State toured Vichayal district in Paita Province, which was declared under state of emergency due to the natural disaster.

While addressing the population, President Castillo affirmed that —as an authority elected by the people— he was supporting the population and asked for understanding because his administration was putting the house in order so that the Government Palace is for everyone.

Likewise, the top official said the COVID-19 pandemic had separated some families and exposed the country's reality. Yet he requested citizens to learn from those difficulties.

"Many times we live disgusted with the neighbor, the family; we have to look further. We are here for the sake of Peru; we are not for anything else, nothing will distract us; they always wanted to distract the people with smokescreens and headlines. We stand for Peru in order to serve the most deprived families, the forgotten people," he expressed.

Moreover, the President indicated that the Council of Ministers will meet in the city of Piura with region Governor Servando Garcia, as well as district and province mayors because residents have chosen them to work without discrimination or privileges.

Mr. Castillo also highlighted that some companies —which had to pay their tax debts— have done so, and that will be essential for meeting the population's needs.
