Peru President: Additional 500,000 families to receive economic bonus

15:44 | Lima, Mar. 23.

President Martin Vizcarra on Monday afternoon announced that 500,000 more families —belonging to the most vulnerable sectors— will each receive a S/380 (about US$107) bonus granted as subsidy for the 15 days of compulsory social isolation currently in force in Peru.

The Head of State confirmed his administration's commitment to financially assist families in vulnerable state. Therefore, he announced that this benefit will be extended to the above-referred households.

"Our greatest effort is to serve those who really need a financial subsidy. We want the highest number of people in vulnerable situation to access this benefit. The current registry is not perfect; thus, we call on families not to collect it if they do not need it (...)," he expressed.

On the other hand, to expand the coverage of care for patients with COVID-19 at the national level, the top official said that a joint commission of the Ministry of Health and EsSalud are traveling domestically to assess the situation of the sector's infrastructure, regionally speaking.

The statesman specified that in the regions —where the installed capacity is not sufficient— temporary infrastructure will be built, depending on their population. These modules, he added, will be implemented to have the same coverage and response in all regions.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers and other authorities. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Monday marks the eighth day of mandatory social isolation.
