10:29 | Lima, May. 8.

Prime Minister Salvador del Solar on Wednesday lamented the death of Peruvian mountaineer Richard Hidalgo, who was found dead inside his tent in the Himalayas.

"Let the spirit of challenging limits and raising Peru high stay with us," the cabinet chief expressed.

The Seven Summits Trek informed Richard Hidalgo was at Makalu's camp 2 (6,500 m) located in the Himalayas. Makalu is the world's fifth-highest mountain.

The Peruvian wished to reach the crest without supplemental oxygen.

Hidalgo was born on February 14, 1971. He studied industrial engineering at Lima-based Universidad Ricardo Palma. The mountaineer then became a member of the International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations (IFMGA) and climbed many Andean mountains.

It should be noted he climbed five of the 14 highest mountains in the world: Shishapangma, Cho Oyu, Manaslu, Annapurna, and Gasherbrum II.
