Peru PM: "I do not close doors to dialogue with political groups or unions"

09:58 | Lima, Jul. 16.

New Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano on Thursday affirmed that he does not close the doors to dialogue with any political party, or business, labor union, while at the front of the Ministerial Cabinet.

The Prime Minister said he is willing to reach consensus —through conversations— with all political actors, and that this task is his obligation as head of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).

"It is my duty to dialogue. I cannot close the doors to any political group, to any business or labor union. Therefore, I am fully willing to dialogue," he said in remarks to RPP radio and TV station.

The recently sworn-in Cabinet chief welcomed the message sent by Fuerza Popular's leader Keiko Fujimori but said this does not mean he gives up on his "democratic principles or political, ideological convictions."

"However, my message was not received in the same way by Fuerza Popular. Congresswoman Martha Chavez did not react the same way, but I express my complete willingness. If Fuerza Popular and the Congress sector close their doors on me, they have the right to decline such invitation to dialogue, as I cannot force this," he added.

In this sense, Cateriano indicated that dialogue is a natural way of solving problems in politics, so it is the duty of all congressional and ministerial authorities to bet on it.
