Peru PM: Dialogue and consensus to shape a better country

17:55 | Lima, Jul. 26.

Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva on Thursday affirmed tools —such as dialogue and political consensus in environments like Congress— will contribute to laying the foundations for a better Peru.

Earlier, Villanueva —in his capacity as a lawmaker— arrived at Parliament headquarters to participate in the voting session aimed at electing the new presiding officials of Congress.

"I head to the Parliament headquarters in order to exercise my right, as a legislator, to elect Congress' new Board," the Cabinet chief posted on Twitter.

"Dialogue and consensus will lead us towards building a better Peru," he added.

As is known, Fuerza Popular legislator Daniel Salaverry was elected as the new Congress Chairman for the 2018-2019 term.

He will be joined by lawmakers Leyla Chihuan (First Vice-Chairwoman), Segundo Tapia (Second Vice-Chairman), and Yeni Vilcatoma (Third Vice-Chairwoman).

The group was chosen by 69 legislators, whereas other 56 lawmakers voted for the challenging —and multiparty— list.
