Peru's pisco production will hit a record high of 10.9 million liters in 2017, thus posting a 4% expansion over last year's figure, Production Minister Pedro Olaechea projected.

"The production of our flagship drink will total 10.9 million liters. This figure will be a record high of 4% compared to 2016," he affirmed.

According to the cabinet member, pisco production exceeded 10 million liters in 2016, mainly underpinned by promotion campaigns developed to foster domestic consumption, as well as reach new markets.

Mistura

Olaechea on Thursday inaugurated the Pisco Hall (Salon del Pisco) at Mistura, Peru's most renowned food festival.

This year's edition will see the participation of 17 wineries which won the 23rd National Pisco Contest.

The area —exclusively dedicated to the Peruvian spirit— will also feature tasting and pairing classes, among other activities.

It must be noted Mistura will run thru November 5 at Lima's Club Revolver and expects to welcome around 400,000 visitors.

Consumption

Olaechea also noted the National Pisco Commision (Conapisco) will in 2018 hold the National Pisco Congress and National Pisco Festival in order to promote its consumption.

"Both initiatives are expected to contribute to the national consumption and production of our flagship drink at an annual rate of 10% in the short term," the minister concluded.

As is known, pisco has reached new markets like Australia, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, India, Israel, Norway and the United Arab Emirates, among others.
