Peru's Pisco exports amounted to US$1.49 million in the first quarter of 2019, up 50% over the same period last year, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) has reported.

The United States was the leading export destination accounting for 28.5% (US$661,728) of total sales, followed by Spain, which made up 24.7% (US$212,415) of Peruvian exports.

The most dynamic destinations during this period were Ecuador (+2,291%), Colombia (+690%), and Australia (+124.9%).

On the other hand, France, Australia, and Brazil started to make a difference with greater imports compared to 2018.

Pisco exports have seen a sustained growth over recent years. In 2009, exports amounted to US$1.3 million, whereas in 2018, sales amounted to US$5.7 million (+320%).

Nowadays, Peru's national drink reaches 33 markets in the Americas, Asia, and Europe.

Permanent promotion

After the launch of the brand "Pisco, Spirit of Peru" early this year, as part of a global strategy to promote the characteristics that make this drink a distinguishable and unique distillate, PromPeru's actions continue at different domestic and foreign promotion platforms.

This way, the brand has been exhibited at various specialized events, such as the gastronomic conference Madrid Fusion (Spain) or Foodex (Japan), one of the largest food and beverage trade shows in Asia.
