15:00 | Lima, Dec. 14.

Ex-President Pedro Castillo will continue to be detained until the request for 18-month pre-trial detention against him is resolved, the Supreme Court for Preparatory Investigation announced on Wednesday.

The detention hearing against the ex-Head of State and former Prime Minister Anibal Torres began this morning.

However, it was adjourned so that the defense of the accused citizens can rely on all elements of conviction to exercise this right, Supreme Judge Juan Carlos Checkley indicated.

In this sense, the magistrate ordered that the hearing continue on Thursday, December 15, at 8:30 a.m. (local time).

The Prosecutor's Office requested 18 months of pre-trial detention against Pedro Castillo and Anibal Torres —within the framework of the investigation into them over the alleged crime of rebellion (alternatively, conspiracy).

Inadmissible

Earlier today, the Superior Court of Justice of Lima declared inadmissible a habeas corpus filed in favor of Pedro Castillo, which had sought to annul the preliminary arrest warrant against him.

The Sixth Constitutional Court of Lima resolved the inadmissibility of the appeal filed against Judge Juan Carlos Checkley —head of the Supreme Court for Preparatory Investigation.

The supreme magistrate had ordered the preliminary detention of Castillo for seven days, at the Public Ministry's request, for the alleged crimes of rebellion and, alternatively, conspiracy.
