The Judiciary Branch (PJ) has ordered seven days of pre-trial detention for ex-President Pedro Castillo.

"The Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation, led by Judge Juan Carlos Checkley, ordered seven days of pre-trial detention for ex-President Pedro Castillo, who is being investigated for the crime of rebellion (and conspiracy)," the PJ said on its Twitter account.

The magistrate's resolution also provides that the judicial detention term will be in force from December 7 to 13, 2022.

Thus, the Judiciary ratifies the request made by the Public Ministry to order his pre-trial detention on suspicion of committing a crime against state power and constitutional order, in the form of rebellion, to the detriment of the State.

In addition, the pre-trial detention is for committing the crime of conspiracy against the State.

Both crimes are set out and punished in articles 346 and 349 of the Criminal Code.

At the hearing held this morning, Deputy Supreme Prosecutor Marco Huaman supported the position of the Public Ministry, noting that Castillo Terrones was caught in flagrante delicto and that his detention was conducted by the National Police after he left the Government Palace.

Moreover, Huaman explained that the pre-trial detention is based on the fact that, while at liberty, the ex-President could contact people who could hide or destroy elements of conviction.
