Peru: Over 70 COVID-19 patients discharged from Pan American Village every day

15:00 | Lima, May. 26.

Since the Temporary Care and Isolation Center at the Pan American Village started operations on March 31, 3,383 patients have received timely care at this facility, of whom 491 were transferred from hospitals, the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) reported on Tuesday.

With a staff of 560 health workers, including doctors, nurses, and medical assistants, the former athletes' lodging has so far discharged 2,221 patients.

Currently, there are 1,132 people hospitalized in three of the four towers aimed at suspected and COVID-19 positive patients

It is worth noting that the establishment's hospital capacity includes 2,945 beds.

Even though the number of discharges varies from week to week, around 70 to 100 COVID-19 patients leave the facilities every day, thanks to the specialized treatment they receive on site.

Additionally, 506 patients have already been referred to health care centers in provinces.

According to Carlos Olivera, head of the Temporary Care and Isolation Center, patients are monitored by doctors and nurses from the moment they are admitted into the Pan American Village in order to analyze their clinical behavior and, if necessary, transfer them to a health facility with better-suited care.

It must be noted that none of the discharged patients have been readmitted to the establishment so far.
