Number of covid-19 discharges exceed that of new infections in Peru

According to a report issued by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), the number of people who completed the home isolation period or were discharged from a health facility after overcoming the novel coronavirus amounted to 41,968 until May 20.

That is 5,444 more medical discharges than the previous report (released on Tuesday), which showed a total of 36,524.

Likewise, the number of citizens infected with coronavirus (COVID-19) in Peru rose to 104,020, unlike the previous report that showed 99,483, which translates to an increase of 4,537 new cases in a single day.

When comparing the number of medical discharges (5,444) and that of positive cases (4,537) in a single day, one can observe that the former exceeds the latter, which means a step forward in the recovery of covid-19 patients in the country.

Death toll

Additionally, according to the Minsa report, the death toll reached 3,024 as at Wednesday, that is 110 more deaths than on Tuesday, when 2,914 were recorded to have died of the novel coronavirus.

Cases by region

Lima continues to be the region with the highest number of covid-19 infected to date with 67,060.

The following regions also report cases of covid-19: Callao (7,381), Lambayeque (5,409), Piura (3,335), Loreto (3,085), La Libertad (2,447), Ucayali (2,371), Ancash (2,354), Arequipa (2,072 ), Ica (1,769), Junin (1,223), San Martin (822), Tumbes (702), Cusco (654), Huanuco (539), Cajamarca (451), Ayacucho (440), Amazonas (349), Huancavelica ( 260), Madre de Dios (259), Tacna (242), Moquegua (235), Pasco (231), Puno (217), and Apurimac (113).
