Pan Am Village facilities, aimed at COVID-19 patients, to be operational Monday

13:29 | Lima, Mar. 25

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday announced that the two refurbished towers of the Pan American Village —designated for the treatment of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients— will come into operation next Monday.

"Starting Monday, we will be able to transfer infected people who require hospitalization, except those who are seriously ill," Mr. Vizcarra said.

The Head of State recalled that severe cases of coronavirus requiring intensive care will be brought to Lima's Ate Hospital, which has admitted its first patient today.

The transfer —he explained— was made taking the necessary measures and posed no risk or danger to Ate district inhabitants.

Remarks were made in a televised Address to the Nation, within the framework of a 15-day mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers and other authorities. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Wednesday marks the tenth day of mandatory social isolation.
