Peru: Over 63,000 visited Colca Valley's tourist attractions

10:02 | Caylloma (Arequipa region), May. 3.

Colca Valley's tourist attractions —such as Condor's Cross Viewpoint, religious architecture, culture, and other natural locations— welcomed 63,541 visitors in the first four months of 2019, the Colca Autonomous Authority (Autocolca) has informed Thursday.

In this sense, April registered the highest number of sightseers (20,115 tourists), who took advantage of the Holy Week to visit Colca and enjoy the area's natural attractions

Although the figures posted between January and April this year are similar to the ones recorded in the same period in 2018, Autocolca believes these numbers will increase in the next months

For that reason, tourism —on a regional and national level— will be promoted.

Geopark

Likewise, Autocolca expects the recent designation of Colca and Andagua Volcanoes as UNESCO Geopark, and its inclusion to the Global Geoparks Network, will motivate more tourists to visit Colca so they can take a look at the volcanic chain, valleys, and biodiversity.

It should be noted this is the first geopark in the Inca country.

As is known, Colca Valley is Arequipa region's most important attraction, and it received nearly 300,000 visitors in 2018.
